St. Mary’s Church Cheruvally at a Glance

St. Mary's church cheruvally is located on the banks of the meandering silvery watered Manimala River which slumbers in summer and is in spot during monsoon. This holy shrine, built in the name of our heavenly patroness, st. Mary, the mother of all believers, is a rendezvous for the parishioners on all days and especially on Sundays. The parishioners are spread over different wards in the panchayats of Chirakkadavu, Manimala and Vellaavoor. Most of the parishioners are of middle class status, with some below the poverty line. The church aims at spreading the message of Christian charity and love in the locality.

Strength
There are 340 families under the parish consisting of 1691 members in total. Irrespective of their financial status, the members work in full harmony in the functioning of the church. By the grace of our heavenly patroness, the members contribute the best of their ability to fulfill the great mission the Catholics have undertaken to uplift the community in Christian faith as well as in economic status.

Infrastructure
St. Mary’s church consecrated on 5th December 1926 is now in a dilapidated condition and as the parish has grown larger in dimension, the inadequacy in space has became a major problem. The construction of a new church, to meet our needs, is now in progress. The religious center on the premises of the present church is used for catechism classes. To mould the young ones in Christian belief.

Our major activities
The parish celebrate every year without fail the feast of St. Mary, St. Sebastian, St. Jude and St. Joseph. The parish has constituted 19 family prayer groups which meet regularly on fixed day of every month where the members meet for prayers as well as discussion on the spiritual and fiscal development of the parish. Apart from this the Vincent De paul ssoceity, Fransiscan Congregation, Cherupushpa Mission League, Mathrudeepthi and yuvadeepthi are all very active. Dedicated parishioners are well qualified engage catechism classes for the young ones on Sundays. As a free service. The annual retreat arranged every year in connection with the festival of our heavenly patroness is an occasion for the parishioners to renew their spiritual activities. The church is very particular of arranging seminars for youths, female and male parishioners in separate sessions and for couples. The attendance on these seminars are always commendable.

The institutions under the parish
With the Vicar as the local manager we effectively run a lower primary school, where the admission is given to all children irrespective of caste and creed. In addition to this, the adoration convent adjacent to this run an English medium nursery school. Where admission is open to all young ones.

Nirmalamatha Adoration Convent
A group of dedicated Rev. sisters of this convent are always concerned to nurture the spiritual needs of parishioners.
